Summer Guide: August 2017

Summer Guide: August 2017

Wow, I cannot believe it is already August! This is summer is going by extremely quickly. I just had the opportunity to go on vacation, or "holiday", to Europe with my family. It was a trip of a lifetime and it was the most amazing experience. European style is unique. Since I was in Paris and London, I was able to see the latest trends of street style in the two fashion capitals of the world. Here are some outfits for the last month of summer inspired by European styles.

1. A Walk in the Park

Velcro sneakers made an appearance many times in the cities. Stan Smith sneakers are pictured above but many other brands make these as well, such as Superga, Vans, Puma, etc. You can pear these shoes with almost anything!

2. Fine Dining

Since my family and I went out to dinner almost every night in these cities, it was amazing to see how people value their appearance. Almost every woman was wearing a dress and heels or a skirt, nice top and heels. Men were always wearing a suit, tie and nice shoes.

3. Let's go Shopping

SOHO was filled with every style you could imagine. This was one of the more popular styles, vintage & grunge.

4. Leather Jackets in the Summer

If you do not own a leather jacket, you must purchase one. It is a staple for every season. Since the weather was chilly in London, many people were wearing leather jackets with their summer outfit.

5. The "Go-to" Outfit

While walking around the cities, people want to be comfortable. Here is an outfit that is simple and easy to put together.

I hope you enjoy the rest of the month and are prepared for fall fashion soon!

Summer 2017 Guide: June

Summer 2017: June

Happy first day of summer everyone! It is officially time to celebrate the sweet summer air and freedom. I hope this summer is filled with adventure, relaxation, and love. Summer is the time to explore and travel to places that you have always wanted to visit. The perfect summer outfits are always based on comfort for me. Whether it is a romper, dress or shirts & a t-shirt, there is always a way to be comfortable and look cute simultaneously. Here are outfits for the transition into the first couple of days of summer!

1. Denim Days

Denim skirts are and have been the major "must have" for the past two seasons. They can be paired with anything. Whether it is going out to a nice dinner or driving to the super market, it is appropriate for almost every occasion.

2. A night out

Summer nights can get a little cold at times. That is why you could never go wrong wearing pants on a night out. These flowy, cropped pants can make your night a little more fun & comfortable.

3. City Strollin'

Gingham has become extremely popular this season. You could wear the dress, top, or bottoms with any type of accessory or shoes. My personal favorite is the gingham dress. You can pair it with a graphic tee and a pair of sneakers to be comfortable while walking around the big apple.

4. Beachy Keen

Who wants to go to the beach? The ultimate black one piece is a staple to your closet this summer along with a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses. The alternative to a one piece is the Kiini bikini. This style has become very popular for women this year. Flaunt your beautiful bathing suit by pairing it with simple but striking accessories.

5. Let's Run Some Errands

While running errands you want to be comfortable. High waisted boyfriend jeans will be your new favorite jeans. Wearing these with a blouse or button up top and slip on flats will be the perfect outfit for running errands.

I hope everyone enjoys the last couple of days of June!

Maryville, Tennessee - UDab 2017

To the best week of my life

This past spring break I had the opportunity to travel to Maryville, Tennessee with 20 other peers, two site leaders and 18 participants, to perform service at Once Upon a Time. I was lucky enough to have found a program that I could get involved with a my school. UDaB (University of Delaware Alternative Breaks) has given me the opportunity to show a different side of the school that I have not seen. It has helped me meet people that I never thought I would cross paths with, discover hidden talents and be the best version of myself.

Through UDaB, we were assigned to a trip called Once Upon a Time. This program hosts breakaway students at their home in Tennessee for a week. It is run by a couple, Ed and Arleen. They are the sweetest and most down to earth people. They are kind enough to let students stay on their own property with the trust that they will help and complete service during the week. Everything on the land was built from the wood on the property. They had the most charismatic feel and the happiest vibes.

Once Upon a Time is located in the Great Smoky Mountains. It has one of the most breathtaking views and is on top of a mountain. One of the main purposes of doing service here was to learn about the environment and the Cherokee Indians. Arleen and Ed are extremely passionate about both of these topics and want breakaway students to understand the purpose of preserving and maintaining sacred land. The other days we worked at Once Upon a Time.

Each day we would do something different. Whether it was hiking up a mountain, cleaning trails, or learning about the Cherokees, we were always involved with the environment. We had the opportunity to work on Cherokee land and we met a full blood Cherokee man, Gill. We also traveled to the Great Smoky Mountains to complete trail maintenance and the Sequoyah Birthplace Museum to learn about the Cherokee's culture.

Having the opportunity to get lost in the mountains with clean air, fresh water and the most beautiful trees was a feeling that cannot be put into words. Each and every person was able to go out of their comfort zone to reach new levels in their own personal lives that could not be made anywhere else. This trip made everyone become the most present and open they could possibly be. It taught us new skills and techniques that we will cherish forever. I learned so much on this trip with hands on experience that I would have never have had anywhere else. It was extremely eye opening to see so many people's love and dedication to our mother nature. This was influential to all of the participants to try and keep this passion for the rest of our lives. Once Upon a Time is a very unique and unbelievable program that gives people so many opportunities to learn about so many different aspects of life and the earth. This trip taught me to love with all my heart, work to the last possible second, never give up, and be the most "you" you could possibly be. The mountains bring out a certain aspect to people that no one has the words to explain. I am forever grateful for this once and a lifetime experience that I would never trade for the world. Thank you to all of my peers and UDaB for allowing me to find a true passion.

Maybe it is time for you to take a break from your busy life, road trip to a place you would never think you would go, and end up having the best experience of your life. It's the most rewarding experience and so well worth it in the end. Will you be able to make a difference?

Happy one month to my favorite people.

The Luck of the Irish

The Luck of the Irish

Happy St. Patrick's Day! This holiday is one of the greatest days for anyone that is Irish. It is a day to reflect on the heritage of the Irish and catholic community. Being Irish is one of the many aspects that I am proud of and cherish the most. There is nothing that I love more than my big, loud Irish family. There is never a time when we are not laughing, singing or dancing with each other whether it is on Christmas, Easter, St. Patrick's day or at the beach.

On St. Patrick's Day, it is our tradition that we go into New York City every year to march in the parade. We all meet in Manhattan, on 5th Ave. to walk with each other, holding hands and waving to people who love St. Patrick's Day just as much as we do. After we march in the parade, we continue our celebration in an Irish pub or any restaurant that could fit 15 people inside. It is a day that I look forward to every single year so I can spend time with my family and honor this day.

Not only is this day special for me, it is one of the most important days for my grandparents. My grandmother, 85 years old, still walks in the parade every single year. It is one of her favorite days to see and reconnect with old friends, family and neighbors. My grandparents were both immigrants from Ireland to start a new life in America. They created a big, loving family that still hold traditional Irish practices.

St. Patrick's Day is one of the best days of the year for celebration and reflection. I hope everyone enjoys their day even if you are not Irish!

The Valentine's Day - 2017

This Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is right around the corner! Valentine's day may be your favorite holiday or it could mean absolutely nothing to you. But, there is no reason why you should not celebrate. If you are in a relationship, go out to dinner and treat yourselves. Or, have a nice night it with Chinese food and a movie. If you are single, hang out with your best girlfriends or go out dancing at a club. If you prefer to do neither, own your night alone by treating yourself to that dessert you've been eyeing for forever or go see Fifty Shades Darker. Whatever you are doing for Valentine's Day, you are going to need an outfit. Something to make yourself feel self loved and confident. Here are some outfit inspirations for this Valentine's Day.

The Date

Going somewhere special with your special someone? Do not be afraid to take a risk and dress yourself up! Silk midi dresses are perfect for this Valentine's Day. These dresses are not super form fitting but they are sleek and sharp. They will boost your confidence especially pairing them with your favorite heels. Just in case it is freezing, you can throw on a trench coat or pea coat over the dress. Finalize your outfit by putting on your lip color and favorite necklace.

Galentine's

It's a girl's night! If you are feeling girly, you are going to need to find the perfect pair of belle bottoms. Flare jeans are comfortable and fun, especially going into the spring season. Wear these jeans with an off the shoulder sweater top. These can be found almost anywhere! For accessories, you can add a bandana, choker or skinny scarf. You can wear almost any kind of shoe with this outfit. For the winter, it would be best to wear a heeled bootie. I topped off this outfit by adding a ChloĆ© bag and a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses.

Club Night
It's Valentine's Day, why not go out?! Going out with your girlfriends is the perfect way to have a great night. Over the knee boots have been extremely popular this past fall season. With these boots, you can wear anything you want. I paired these shoes with a leather skirt and crop top. Over this outfit, you can throw on a fur jacket. Make sure you bring your favorite cross body bag and wear your nude lipstick. It's time to have a fun night out!

A Night To Yourself
If you have a late night at the office or just want a nice night to yourself, there's nothing wrong with a pajama and movie night! Put on your slippers, favorite pair of pajamas and robe. Light a candle, pour a glass of wine and put on the best romantic comedy you can think of.

I hope this gives you some inspiration for your Valentine's Day and you enjoy your day! Make sure you're laughing, smiling and of course, loving.
